Man convicted after dog attack on pet cat

A Belfast man has been sentenced at Belfast Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 6 May 2025, following his conviction for offences involving four dogs attacking and fatally injuring a pet cat.

Belfast City Council took the prosecution against Darren Prenter of Velsheda Court, Belfast.

The prosecution was taken after reports that four lurcher type dogs of which Mr Prenter was the owner, were out in public without a lead or muzzle and had attacked a cat at Alliance Road near Ballysillan Playing Fields on 9 September 2024.

Mr Prenter was convicted following the dog attack on another animal and received a fine of £500.

He also received further fines of £100 each for five offences on the same date 9 September 2024. Mr Prenter having been in charge of more than two lurcher dogs on this occasion with all four off lead and without a muzzle. As well as the fines totalling £1000 Mr Prenter was ordered to pay court costs of £144.
