Somme Commemoration at Belfast City Hall

Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Hedley Abernethy, laid a wreath at the Cenotaph in the Garden of Remembrance at Belfast City Hall yesterday as part of a service to commemorate the 110th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

Councillor Abernethy led the observance, marking the anniversary of the 1916 battle in which so many brave men from the 36th (Ulster) Division, the 16th (Irish) Division and other Forces lost their lives.

Also in attendance were Belfast City Councillors, representatives from the UK and Irish governments and the Armed Forces.
