Parks in Belfast

Musgrave Park

Musgrave Park has two bowling greens and Gaelic football, hurling and camogie pitches. The park is popular with walkers and joggers and contains a Highway to Health route. It also includes a bottle bank. We have installed public access defibrillators for park users.

Flood alleviation work

NI Water is doing work in the park to reduce the flooding risk to houses in the Marguerite Park and Donegall Park areas. The work involves tunnelling and construction of pipelines and removal of some trees. We will replace these trees. The park is open to the public, except for the Grovelands area. This area will be closed temporarily. We’ll have diversion signs in the park.

History of Musgrave Park

The park opened to the public in 1924. The park is named after Sir Henry Musgrave who donated the land used to build the park.

Getting to Musgrave Park

The park is in south Belfast. Enter the park at Stockman's Lane.

Take Metro no. 90, 92 or 92A/B if travelling from Belfast city centre, or plan your journey with Translink (link opens in new window).

Other attractions in Musgrave Park

Musgrave Park has an innovative therapy garden, which was developed with the support of several nearby schools. The garden combines different therapeutic features in one space to improve the quality of life, development and wellbeing of local residents.  A 'whispering' wall is the central focus of the garden, which is fitted with acoustic equipment and a mosaic finish to encourage sensory, stimulatory and interactive play.

The park has:

  • a story circle and meeting area
  • a willow tunnel
  • a sand play area
  • a bed for planting designed with disabled access
  • musical instruments
  • community artwork
  • play equipment

Green Flag awards

Musgrave Park has been awarded a Green Flag every year from 2010 to 2022. This award recognises the best open spaces in the UK.
