The grounds of Belfast City Hall will come alive on Saturday 18 May with a host of free family fun for Councillor Ryan Murphy’s Lord Mayor’s Day.
Belfast’s First Citizen is inviting everyone to join him on the front lawns of City Hall between 12 noon and 5pm to celebrate our diverse and welcoming city and his year in office.
The celebrations will feature internationally renowned 12 foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee child and symbol of human rights, Little Amal. Over the course of the afternoon, she will take part in a performance piece based on Gulliver’s Travels.
Visitors can also enjoy a packed line-up of activities including:
- live circus, dance and music performances,
- Maypole dancing,
- workshops,
- themed walkabout performers,
- flower-inspired arts and crafts,
- henna tattoos, face painting,
- traditional games, and
- activities for older visitors.
Entry to the Lord Mayor’s Day event is free. This is a drop-in event and you don't need a ticket, but capacity may be restricted at times.

- Access to the event is free. Entertainment and activities are happening 12 noon until 5pm, although access could become limited at times based on numbers.
- Should you leave the event you may not be able to re-enter; this will be at the discretion of the stewards and may be dependent on the site reaching capacity.
- Belfast City Council requests that patrons assist in creating a shared event space. Therefore, we reserve the right to restrict access to its events if it is deemed, by the Council, that a patron(s) is/are in breach of this position. Belfast City Council also has a duty to ensure various equality rights are protected under S75 of the Northern Ireland Act, and reserves the right to restrict access to events should a patron be behaving in a way that is likely to constitute a breach of these obligations.
- Alcohol is not permitted onsite and will not be sold onsite.
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
- No dogs except assistance dogs.
- No bicycles permitted onsite.
- No glass or naked flames permitted onsite.
- Unauthorised charity collections, leafleting or other promotional activity are not permitted within the site.
- Be aware that Belfast City Council will have an official photographer onsite. If a specific image of an individual or a group is the focal point of a photograph, you will be asked for your consent to use the image and to complete a form(s) in line with the General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act 2018.
- Professional photographers who operate for public facing media are not permitted to operate within the event space without obtaining permission from Belfast City Council and providing details of their official accreditation alongside contact details.
- Once onsite you assume all risk of injury and all responsibility for property loss, destruction or theft, and release organisers, sponsors, performers, venue and their employees from any liability.
- Belfast City Council has the right to refuse admission.
- Queues for some entertainment activities will be managed and due to popularity, some may be closed prior to advertised event times. All queues will be closed no later than 15 minutes before the event ends.
- This outdoor event will happen regardless of weather conditions, so please dress accordingly.
- Belfast City Council reserves the right to make any alterations to the advertised details for the event.
