Belfast City Council has joined forces with council areas across Northern Ireland to deliver virtual support through its wide network of enterprise agencies.

In partnership with East Belfast Enterprise Park, North City Business Centre Ltd, Ormeau Business Park, Ortus and Work West Enterprise Agency, Belfast City Council is offering budding entrepreneurs ‘virtual’ access to the Go For It Programme to help them launch their business idea.

This project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Investment for Growth & Jobs Northern Ireland (2014-2020) Programme.

Would-be entrepreneurs will get the chance to speak to a business advisor remotely via telephone or video conferencing about their business idea and find out how the Go For It Programme can help them.

Councillor David Brooks, Chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth and Regeneration Committee said: “We would encourage anyone in the Belfast City Council area who has an idea to start their own business not to be put off seeking the appropriate advice and support of the Go For It Programme during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“We have a team of experienced business advisors, who are working remotely, through our network of enterprise agencies to provide candidates with the expert advice and support they need to start their own business.”

“Our business advisors will help candidates create a business plan tailored to their business idea, focusing on important elements such as financial forecasting and accounts, sales and marketing, and how they can potentially access funding.

“The business plan will provide candidates with a blue-print for building a successful and sustainable business model, and the confidence that they have taken all the necessary steps before launching their own business.”

The Go For It Programme can help any budding entrepreneurs do more than dream up a good idea - it can help you turn it into reality. It has mentored over 6,000 aspiring entrepreneurs across all 11 council areas of Northern Ireland in the past two years.

It provides expert free advice and support to anyone wishing to start their own business, by taking them through the process of creating a business plan. It covers everything from financial forecasting to marketing and long-term business planning.

Two entrepreneurs who have used their expert cooking skills to pursue their own joint business venture in Belfast are Philly D'Uva and her husband Nicola Attianese of Delizia Italian Food.

Philly and Nicola are talented Italian chefs who have worked in Michelin star restaurants in Italy, cooked in Washington DC and San Francisco and catered to international diplomats. The couple and two of their four daughters came from Pagani near Salerno in Italy, to Northern Ireland, at the end of 2018, to work as chef and sous chef in a Belfast restaurant. After seven months, the pair decided that they loved life in Northern Ireland and wanted to start their own business.

Delizia Italian Food is an Italian food brand, sold online through their own website, that also offers private chef and catering services for events and functions. They also run Italian cookery classes and plan to launch their own Italian restaurant and recipe book at the end of 2020.

Philly D'Uva of Delizia Italian Food said: “I filled in the form from Facebook and someone was in contact within just a couple of hours. My Go For It business advisor has been amazing, helping us with marketing, social media and the financial side. You can tell they want you to succeed and they are there to help all the way.

“When we had our business plan completed, we took it to the bank and let me tell you, the bank were so impressed – they could see the restaurant and the e-commerce and the cookery school all laid out and they were excited to help us!”
