US Consulate meets with business leaders at City Hall

Business leaders met today, Thursday 30 June, in Belfast City Hall to showcase the city’s FinTech offer to a range of high-profile US investors.

Co-ordinated by the US Consulate and hosted by Belfast City Council, the inward visit is the result of a successful pitch to bring the delegation to Belfast following their London programme.

Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Tina Black commented: “We’ve enjoyed a special relationship with the United States for a long time now – and in fact, the Belfast Consulate is the second oldest continuously operating US Consulate in the world. After meeting with a range of interested investors just last week at the New York New Belfast conference, it’s fantastic to be able to showcase our city’s compelling investment proposition again – but this time on home ground.

“As well as outlining Belfast’s impressive economic trajectory, we’re setting out our ambitions for inclusive economic growth over the next decade, supported by the transformative Belfast Region City Deal. We aim to attract further inward investment to Belfast to help create better jobs, opportunities and quality of life for our residents.

“It’s our hope that our American visitors will be inspired by Belfast’s talent, energy and resilience, and that our local colleagues will use this valuable opportunity to connect with our guests and explore how we can do business together. The potential for us to make Belfast an investment destination for innovation is vast.”

U.S. Consul General Paul Narain added: “As a global FinTech hub, Belfast has already generated almost 40,000 jobs in the financial and professional services sector.   The city offers a compelling business case for U.S. foreign direct investment and we look forward to working with Belfast City Council and other partners in building two-way trade and economic growth.”

Joined by Commercial Affairs representatives from the US Embassy in London, Paul Narain, the US Consul General in Belfast and his team, the visiting delegation includes senior leaders from a range of US companies:

  • ChainLockR a company that designs, develops and operates across service segments for Cloud-Based Smart Contracts and AI Data Services,
  • MetroHartford Alliance, a private sector led investor-based economic development partnership,
  • Trust Stamp, a company that leverages AI to produce tokenised biometrics for identity authentication,
  • AKRU, a commercial real estate investment platform; and
  • DigsFact, a Chicago based startup focused on automating the capture of spatial data using Computer Vision and Augmented Reality based patent-pending technology for residential and commercial properties.
