Belfast man sentenced after dog attack on a child

A Belfast man has been sentenced at Belfast Magistrates Court yesterday, Tuesday 2 June 2026, following his conviction for an offence involving a dog attacking a person.

Belfast City Council took the prosecution against Lucas Bjorkman-Loney of Broomhill Park, Belfast.

The prosecution was taken after reports that Mr Bjorkman-Loney’s Pointer type dog had attacked and injured a 5-year-old boy causing injuries to his leg. The attack took place in the street after the dog had escaped from premises at Broomhill Park on 27 June 2025.

Mr Bjorkman-Loney was convicted of an offence under Article 29(2) of The Dogs (Northern Ireland) Order 1983 following the attack received a fine of £750 and is required to pay a compensation order totalling £500 and an additional £132 legal and court costs.
