Belfast man sentenced following conviction for causing unnecessary suffering to a dog

At Belfast Magistrates Court today, 3 June 2025, Mr Eric Moore of Hartington Court, Belfast was sentenced for causing unnecessary suffering to a Bully type dog on 16 July 2024.

Belfast City Council took the prosecution after complaints were received that a dog had been kicked, punched, slapped and grabbed by a male at Hartington Court, Salisbury Street, Belfast. 

Mr Moore was convicted of causing the dog unnecessary suffering under section 4 of The Welfare of Animals Act (Northern Ireland) 2011.

Mr Moore was sentenced to 5 months custody suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay costs totalling £246.

The Court also disqualified Mr Moore from owning any animal for a period of 5 years.
