Date: 25 February 2026
Belfast City Council is encouraging residents to save money and help the planet by joining Repair Week 2026, which runs from 2 - 8 March.
The week-long celebration features a jam-packed programme of events across the city, designed to teach practical skills, highlight local repair services, and promote a circular economy. From bike maintenance and tech fixes to furniture upholstery and clothing alterations and a power tool workshop, the initiative aims to prove that repairing items is a simple, effective way to reduce waste and save money.
With the ongoing climate and cost of living challenges, more people are choosing to repair items instead of replacing them.
Repair Week is an opportunity for community groups and organisations to promote repair services, sustainable products and practical skills. There are many Repair Cafes across Belfast and Northern Ireland that promote repair at a community level. And there are lots of shops, services and organisations across our city that specialise in expert-level repair from shoes and watch repair and clothes alterations, to furniture and upholstery refurbishment. Come along and join a range of free and low-cost events taking place in partnership with local organisations, charities, and businesses. Highlights include:
- Bike Repair Sessions: East Belfast Mission will be hosting drop-in clinics at Highfield, Morton, Divis, and Knocknagoney Community Centres, as well as St George’s Market.
- Off-Street Stitching: Join Sue Bamford from Tools for Solidarity for a gentle, slow fashion inspired stitching session at 2 Royal Avenue
- Tech Support: Ignite IT will host a ‘FixIT’ session in the city centre (2 Royal Avenue) to help residents get small gadgets back in working order.
- International Women’s Day Special: The Belfast Tool Library, in partnership with the Northern Ireland Resources Network (NIRN), will host a “Women are fixing it for themselves” workshop on the Shankill Road.
- Pop-up Repair Cafés: Activity continues into the following week with a collaborative pop-up event at Queen’s University Students’ Union.
George Gillespie, Community Network Manager at Northern Ireland Resources Network (NIRN), said: "We are absolutely delighted to support Belfast City Council’s waste reduction initiatives. It’s a pleasure to work alongside a team so committed to promoting the circular economy and making a sustainable future a growing reality for our community."
In addition to physical workshops CastleCourt Shopping Centre will highlight repair businesses located within the centre.
