The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Deirdre Hargey has hosted a special reception in City Hall to celebrate the success of the Irish women’s hockey team at the 2018 World Cup.
The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Deirdre Hargey today hosted a special reception in City Hall to celebrate the success of the Irish Women’s Hockey team at the 2018 World Cup, held in London this past summer.
Seeded second from bottom in the tournament rankings, they stunned everyone by reaching the final where they faced off against the top seeds, the Netherlands.
Despite being beaten, they picked up worldwide acclaim for their heroic underdog efforts.
Councillor Hargey congratulated team captain Katie Mullan and met with Ireland’s most capped sportswoman, Shirley McCay.
