Lord Mayor names local social enterprise Tre-Eco as her final charity of the year.

Date: 3 March 2026

The Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, has officially announced that Tre-Eco will be one of her chosen charities for the remainder of her 2025/2026 term.

The selection highlights Tre-Eco’s dual mission of environmental regeneration and social empowerment.

The social enterprise in South Belfast aims to support young volunteers with training and confidence building skills including building work, plastering and power washing to enable them to be more attractive to future employers.

In doing so, Tre-Eco aligns with the Lord Mayor's core priority of ensuring "no-one is left behind" and supporting people into emerging job markets.

Councillor Tracy Kelly met with the social enterprise today and said she was delighted to show her support to the local organisation:

“It is my absolute pleasure to announce Tre-Eco as one of my civic charities for my term as First Citizen of Belfast – a social enterprise very close to my heart.

“This amazing facility is part of the fabric of this close-knit community in South Belfast and where I have lived all my life. Having worked at Belfast South Community Resources previously, I understand the ethos of places like Tre- Eco and the incredible work that leaders Graham and Sarah provide to these young people.

“Tre-Eco is more than a social enterprise. It is a safe haven – creating a sustainable environment by engaging young people, tackling local dereliction and providing future learning and development qualifications.

“My goal this year is to connect more young people to the opportunities being created in our city, and Tre-Eco is a perfect example of a social enterprise making that happen at a grassroots level.”

As a chosen charity, Tre-Eco will benefit from increased visibility across the city, further enabling its mission to provide environmental training and community-led regeneration projects.

Each year, the First Citizen selects a number of charities to support during their year in office. Additional charities are also chosen by the Deputy Lord Mayor and the High Sheriff respectively, providing a much-needed boost to the charity sector from the city’s team of civic dignitaries.
