Portrait of former Lord Mayor officially unveiled at City Hall

The official portrait of former Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, was unveiled at City Hall this evening.

Commissioned as part of Belfast City Council’s ongoing commitment to celebrating the city’s creative talent, this new piece by local artist Mel Carroll will be displayed inside the building, alongside portraits of other previous Lord Mayors.

The latest unveiling honours a long-standing civic tradition to champion the city's vibrant arts and culture sector by providing each First Citizen with the opportunity to work with a local artist to mark their term in office.

The collection of mayoral portraits are viewed by thousands of visitors each year during daily tours of the building and include works by other renowned artists, including Colin Davidson, Robert Ballagh and Nicola Russell.

Councillor Murray became Belfast’s First Citizen in June 2024.
