Belfast Lord Mayor Alderman Frank McCoubrey is calling on the public to get involved in shaping the city’s coronavirus recovery plans to help create a better future.

Belfast City Council is gathering views from people across the city about how Covid-19 has impacted their communities and their priorities for the future. These opinions will be used to develop plans and shape public services post-Covid.

With coronavirus restrictions impacting face-to-face consultation and engagement, the council is taking the conversation online via a new website called Your say Belfast. As well as accessing information on current plans and priorities, citizens will be able to express their views through opinion polls, surveys, discussion forums and question and answer boards on the new platform.

Alderman McCoubrey said: “2020 has been a very difficult year for us all, but with plans for the rollout of coronavirus vaccines expected soon, we are now able to look forward with hope to better times ahead.

“As we look to the future, Belfast City Council plans to lead and shape the city’s recovery so that we come back stronger. And as we plan our recovery, we are asking people across the city to tell us about how Covid has impacted them, their family and their community, and their thoughts and priorities for the months and years ahead.

“Throughout the pandemic, Belfast’s community spirit has shone through, so we would also like to hear inspiring stories about those who selflessly supported their neighbours and others during the most difficult times so that we can recognise their efforts and give thanks.

“I would encourage people from across the city to log on to Your say Belfast and help us plan for the strongest possible recovery. Your opinions are important to us.”
