International Day of Persons with Disabilities celebrated with special event in City Hall today

School pupils from Mitchell House were special guests at City Hall today to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD] 2025 in the city.

The choir sang festive carol songs in the East Wing of the building and were joined by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly and Councillor Ruth Brooks, Chair of the Council's Disability Working Group, as well as members of their family.

The event was organised by Belfast City Council to celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD] 2025 and promote the rights and wellbeing of persons with disabilities in the city. 

As part of the celebration, the Council also held an event with staff, Councillors and members of the Disability Advisory Panel, looking at accessibility and lived experiences in the city for people with disabilities.

Jamie Shields and Celia Chartres-Aris from Disabled by Society were guest speakers at this event as well as members of the council’s Disability Advisory Panel.
