Food waste legislation for businesses

The Northern Ireland Environment Agency's legislation means all businesses that generate more than five kilogrammes (kg) of food waste must have a separate food waste collection.

This law applies to:

• commercial food businesses
• canteens
• social clubs
• schools
• not-for-profit organisations

The business is responsible for making the necessary arrangements to dispose of their waste.
