Getting married in a civil ceremony

  • Arranging your civil ceremony

A civil marriage ceremony can be conducted by a registrar or deputy registrar for the district where it will take place.

You will first need to decide where and when to have your ceremony before giving notice of your marriage.

If you would like to have your ceremony in City Hall, or at one of our approved venues, contact us by filling out our marriage and civil partnership enquiry form or calling 028 9027 0455 for availability and advice.

Getting married in Belfast City Hall

Our experienced registrars can perform your civil ceremony in historic Belfast City Hall.

We can have up to six ceremonies each day. Ceremonies may be:

    • Monday: 11am, 12 noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
    • Tuesday to Thursday: 10am, 11am, 12 noon, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm
    • Friday: 11am, 12 noon, 2pm and 3pm
    • Saturday: 12 noon, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm.

Rooms are available for viewing by appointment from Monday to Thursday, 9am to 9.30am.

You can have up to 80 guests at the ceremony.

We also offer a small civil marriage ceremony where the couple and their two legally required witnesses are present. If you would like this, you should arrange for two people, aged 16 or over, to be at the ceremony to act as witnesses. This type of ceremony is available at limited times and terms and conditions apply. Please contact us for more information.

Ceremony vehicles will need to be booked into our courtyard before your big day. There are two spaces available on weekdays and four spaces available at weekends. To book, please email [email protected] with all vehicle registration numbers.

From time to time, events occur in City Hall which are out of our control. This may affect the use of certain areas.

  • Giving notice
