Members of Belfast City Council have passed a motion supporting the COP26 Global Day of Action this Saturday.
The motion, proposed by Councillor Fiona Ferguson and seconded by Councillor Matt Collins, was adopted at last night’s monthly meeting of Belfast City Council.
Members agreed to support the march in Belfast on Saturday, as well as lighting up City Hall green this Friday ahead of Saturday’s event.
People from across the city and beyond are expected to gather at Corn Market in Belfast at 12pm on Saturday to join the rally to demand action on climate.
Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Kate Nicholl will also be in attendance and will make a speech at City Hall.
The rally is taking place as the COP26 climate summit continues in Glasgow.
The Lord Mayor will lead a Belfast City Council delegation to the conference on 10 and 11 November.
