Residents are being invited to have their say on how the Waterworks and Alexandra Parks could be better linked together in order to maximise the potential of the two north Belfast parks.
Feedback from the survey, along with consultation events coming up in coming weeks, will be used to be create a visioning document and provide an important evidence base for PeacePlus and other funding applications, with the council’s long-term aim to secure investment and deliver a new vision for both sites.
Both the survey and the events are open to residents, as well as local community and voluntary organisations and statutory agencies in the city.
Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Ryan Murphy, said: “As our Belfast Agenda demonstrates, we’ve got a bold vision for our city, and we want to take every opportunity to improve quality of life for our residents.
“We know that having access to green, open space is so beneficial to our health and wellbeing, and we want people living here to easily access and enjoy this area’s beautiful nature, wildlife, and sports and play facilities.
“So I’d like to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds who regularly use, or would like to use, Waterworks and Alexandra Parks to tell us how they’d like to see these parks better connected – both by the water that flows between them, and through walking and cycling, so that local communities can really reap the benefits of what’s on their doorstep.
“We’d love to see lots of younger and older people come along to our focus groups next week, and as many people as possible joining our co-design workshop on Wednesday 2 August. And, if you’re not able to make the events, you can still share your thoughts on the parks’ current uses, challenges, and opportunities, as well as ideas on what you’d like to see in the future through our online survey.”
Upcoming consultation events include:
- Wednesday 26 July, 6pm, Girdwood Community Hub - Youth focus group
- Thursday 27 July, 6pm, Girdwood Community Hub - Seniors' focus group
- Wednesday 2 August, 6pm, Girdwood Community Hub - Co-design workshop
No booking is needed – just come along.
