Safer Belfast Network

  • About the Safer Belfast Network

    The Safer Belfast Network is an informal network of organisations involving volunteers who support vulnerable people across Belfast City Centre.

    These organisations support a range of people with differing needs. They may be homeless, using alcohol and or drugs, or are simply out in the city during the evening and need assistance. The network is not formally constituted - it operates on an informal partnership basis.

  • Purpose of the Safer Belfast Network

    The purpose of the group is to:

    • provide a forum for identification and discussion about emerging issues in Belfast City Centre
    • share information within the network to improve understanding and build strength of organisations in the group
    • jointly secure and share resources, skills and expertise 
    • provide volunteering groups with guidelines to support safe involvement of volunteers working in the City Centre
    • provide a database of relevant training and training providers and provide opportunities for joint training
    • collate and share information which demonstrates the value and impact of volunteering across Belfast City Centre
    • work in partnership to contribute to a safer city centre through a co-ordinated approach to supporting those most in need 
  • Safer Belfast Network Membership

    The network is open to groups which are constituted and open to engagement re good volunteering practice.

    Current membership includes: 

    • Belfast Street Pastors, 
    • City Centre Chaplaincy, 
    • Community Rescue Service, 
    • Extern, 
    • Lagan Search and Rescue, 
    • People’s Kitchen, 
    • SOS NI, 
    • Team Haven, 
    • Teen Challenge,
    • Welcome Organisation. 

    We work with statutory partners including, Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) and the Police Service NI (PSNI). The group is Chaired by Volunteer Now.
