DRIFT

  • By: OGU Architects & MMAS with Matilde Meireles
  • Location: River Lagan locations
  • When: Spring – Summer 2024
  • Creative Me Profile: Nature Lover

Come visit Drift this summer and connect with our river. Designed by leading architects OGU and MMAS with sound artist Matilde Meireles, the project invites the people of Belfast to explore these spaces between city and water, and seeks to amplify the multi-sensory experience of being on the Lagan.

The project aims to challenge the city's relationship to its waterfront, presenting the river as a vital public space for a growing population. It will also delve into the potential for more wildlife-friendly urban places to be made available along its edge.

Engaging with the river’s historical significance and cultural identity, the project will embark on a journey of discovery to map and reveal significant parts of the Lagan.  Anyone can contribute to the open call which will invite people to tell us what is important about the river for them. The team will also work with people and communities along the river. It is hoped that by sparking people’s curiosity and interest in the Lagan, the project can start a transformative public conversation about the potential of a more accessible river that embraces a series of valuable public spaces.

Drift will leave a legacy for the city and its river far beyond 2024.
