Updated on Tuesday 1 July 2025
We have appointed Beryl as the new operator of our Frank and Honest Belfast Bikes scheme. Beryl is the UK's leading shared sustainable transport provider, providing greener travel options to:
The current operator, NSL Ltd, will continue to operate the scheme until Beryl takes over later this year. We will publish the launch date of the new operation on this page.
Beryl will replace the infrastructure for the 60 on-street docking stations in a phased approach to accommodate the initial suite of 400 new bikes.
When fully launched, the new operation will have both traditional pedal bikes and e-bikes. The introduction of e-bikes is being supported by the Department for Infrastructure’s Active Travel scheme (link opens in new window).
Watch our 43-second video which encourages people to explore Belfast on two wheels and highlights our network of docking stations across the city.
In preparation for the introduction of the new Belfast Bikes operator, from Tuesday 1 July the current scheme will operate on a ‘pay as you go’ basis only.
Annual and casual (three-day) memberships, including renewals, will no longer be available from 1 July.
If you already have an annual membership, you can continue to use it while the current scheme is in place. Our outgoing operators (NSL Ltd) will contact existing members to refund any remaining membership on a pro-rata basis.
We will announce the launch date of the new scheme soon, along with information on registration and tariffs.
Visit belfastbikes.co.uk for information about pay as you go tariffs and how to register (link opens in new window).

This video plays for one minute and 30 seconds. It explains how to use Frank and Honest Belfast Bikes. It explains that once you have downloaded the Nextbike app, you need to scan the QR code on the bike and use the app to unlock it to begin your journey. It also shows how to use the pause function and how to return the bike at the end of your journey. The video highlights the importance of locking the frame lock and making sure the bike is showing as returned on the app.
