Cross country and relay events for Belfast primary schools

As part of our work to promote sport and healthy lifestyles, we run two dedicated running events for Belfast primary schools.

Cross country championships

The annual Belfast Schools Cross Country Championships was last held in March and April 2025.

This event for P6 and P7 pupils is held at parks across Belfast, with the finals held at Mallusk Playing Fields, prizes are awarded for the winning individual girls and boys, as well as teams.

Heats for our 2026 will take place on the following dates:   

• West Belfast primary schools – 10 March 2026 
• East Belfast primary schools – 12 March 2026
• North Belfast primary schools – 24 March 2026
• South Belfast primary schools – 26 March 2026

The best placed teams and individuals from each heat will qualify for the final which will take place in late April 2026.

Relay event

This annual event last took place on 21 October 2025.

Pupils from schools across Belfast participated in the relay race, at Victoria Park, with prizes awarded for the winning teams in both the boys and girls’ races.
