Contract notices for project management and design assurance, interpretive planning and exhibition and integrated design teams for the landmark Belfast Stories visitor destination are to be issued this summer, with the main contractor being appointed in 2024.

Work started on the ambitious Belfast Stories project in 2016 with a concept development study, followed by initial architectural input and the creation of an interim outline business case. An important project milestone was reached in December 2021, when the project site was acquired.

Due to open in 2028, elements of the new visitor attraction will be housed in one of Belfast’s most beloved heritage buildings, the listed art deco former Bank of Ireland building on Royal Avenue, along with the surrounding 4,000sq metres site.

The transformative £100million Belfast Stories development is Belfast’s flagship City Deal project - one of seven projects included in the Belfast Region City Deal’s tourism and regeneration plan.

Belfast Lord Mayor Councillor Christina Black explains: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the top design and project management talent to be part of making Belfast Stories a truly world class visitor destination. This ambitious project, which will link with and boost local tourism providers, will serve as a catalyst for inclusive growth in Belfast and the wider region. Strong collaboration between the various teams we appoint to deliver Belfast Stories will be critical to its success.

“Architecture, urban design, our heritage and an authentic visitor experience will all play important roles in helping us to respond to the major challenges facing our city; demonstrating that Belfast is open and welcoming for socialising, for business and for visitors – and telling our stories on the global stage.”
