Book a pitch

  • Playing on our sports pitches

    Our pitches are available for play seven days a week. If you want to book a pitch, you must send us a booking request at least two full working days before the date you want to use the pitch. You can send us a pitch booking request online or by post. We will contact you to confirm your pitch booking request and payment details.

  • Pitch booking deadlines

    For pitch booking purposes, we don’t consider Saturday, Sunday or public holidays as working days. You must submit your booking request to us at least two full working days before you intend to use the facilities. We cannot accept booking requests if the minimum notice isn’t given.

    Pitch booking examples

    To request a pitch booking to play on a Monday, you must request this by 4pm on the Wednesday before. To request a pitch booking to play on a Friday, you must request this by 4pm on Tuesday in the same week.

    Pitch bookings for leagues

    When a pitch is already allocated to a league, confirmation of fixtures must be submitted in full, on the agreed fixtures template, by 12 noon on the Wednesday before for weekend fixtures.

  • How to book a pitch

    If you request a pitch booking, your booking is not confirmed until our Pitches Administration Team write to you or send you a confirmation email.

    Our email pitches@belfastcity.gov.uk and the bookings line 028 9027 0684 are open from 8am to to 4pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, leave a voicemail and we will return your call.

    Sports pitches and playing fields

  • Pitch prices

    Our prices to book a grass sports pitch, a synthetic sports pitch, the cycle track at Orangefield, cricket, aeromodelling and archery facilities are valid until 31 March 2024.

    Adult and Junior players

    Junior means a player aged under 18 years old. Adult means a player aged 18 years old and over.

    VAT exemption on bookings

    We apply VAT automatically to all bookings. If you are exempt from paying VAT, you must tell us before confirming your booking. Your booking may be eligible for VAT exemption if your booking meets all these conditions:

    1. The booking series consists of ten or more sessions.
    2. Each session is for the same sporting activity.
    3. Each session is in the same location.
    4. The interval between each session is at least a day and not more than 14 days (although the duration of each session can be varied). A booking for every other Saturday afternoon fulfils this condition but the exemption does not apply if the interval is for longer than 14 days due to closure, for example if the pitch is closed for public holidays.
    5. The facilities are booked by a school, club association or an organisation representing affiliated clubs or constituent associations such as a local league.
    6. The person who booked the pitch has exclusive use during the sessions.

    Aeromodelling prices

    Aeromodelling facilities are available at Boucher Road Playing Fields and City of Belfast Playing Fields. There are three daily sessions to book; morning, afternoon and evening. Each session is four hours.

  • Paying for a pitch booking

    You must pay in full on or before the day you want to use the pitch. We accept payment by debit card, credit card, bank transfer or cheque. If you have an invoice account with us, we'll send you a monthly invoice to be paid within 30 days.

    Paying by invoice

    If your club or organisation wants more information on invoice accounts, or payment using direct debit, email pitches@belfastcity.gov.uk for an application form. You should return the printed form to:

    The form must have an original signature. We don’t accept forms with scanned or electronic signatures.

  • Cancelling or changing a pitch booking

    To cancel or change a booking, you should email pitches@belfastcity.gov.uk at least two full working days before the booked date.

  • Pitches hotline

    We update information on pitch availability by 12 noon every Friday and by 9am on Saturday when necessary. For weekend pitch information or to check if a pitch is playable, call our Pitches hotline, 028 9027 0684.

    This hotline doesn't provide information on last minute league cancellations. For these updates, you should contact your own club or league.
