Corporate plan and improvement plan

  • Corporate Plan 2020-2024

Our corporate plan sets out our priorities and the work we will do to improve the quality of life for everyone in Belfast.

Our priorities are closely aligned to those within the Belfast Agenda, the community plan for Belfast, which was developed by the Belfast Community Planning Partnership. It sets out a shared vision and associated outcomes for the city.

The corporate plan for 2020–2024 focuses on the five key pillars plus several cross-cutting priorities:

    • Growing an inclusive economy
    • City development
    • Working and learning
    • Living here
    • Resilience and sustainability

The document also includes details of:

    • our organisational priorities
    • our expenditure in 2019 - 2020
    • our core values, which will guide our work and inform our standard of conduct and behaviour
  • Improvement Plan 2021 - 2022

The Local Government Act (NI) 2014 introduced an ‘improvement duty’ on councils, which requires us to make arrangements to ensure continuous improvement in relation to the services we provide.

As part of this, we are required to consult residents on our proposed improvement objectives and to publish an annual Improvement Plan.

This year, we aligned our improvement objectives to the Belfast: Our Recovery plan so that we can continue to focus our efforts on supporting local people through covid-19 and on helping our services and city recover.

The improvement objectives for 2021-2022 are:

    Our city
We will support our city to recover by helping to restore the social and cultural vibrancy of our spaces and places in a safe and sustainable way
    Our services
We will take steps to ensure our services adapt and improve in the short and longer term.
    Our communities
We will work to support our communities, helping them to become stronger, healthier and more resilient
    Our economy
We will work in collaboration with others to protect and create jobs and support people into employment.
    Our environment
We will take action to protect the environment and improve the sustainability of Belfast
    Our digital innovation
We will improve digital inclusion and enhance our digital infrastructure to support job creation and our economy

  • Improvement plan performance assessment

Each year we review our performance by publishing a report which considers progress against key objectives within our improvement plan.

The performance assessment for 2019-2020 brings together an update on 17 key activities which contribute to the six improvement objectives detailed within the Improvement Plan 2019-2020. It provides a year end position for the period April 2019 - March 2020.

You can read our Performance Assessment of the 2019-2020 Improvement Plan.
