We want to make it easy to apply for a job with Belfast City Council.
We recognise the recruitment process can be confusing and does vary depending on the employer. To help you, we have summarised our recruitment process below.
To apply for a job with us, you must complete an application form. We do not accept CVs. This is to ensure that all information is presented in the same way, so all applicants are treated fairly. Application forms can be downloaded from the specific job page.
All our jobs are advertised on our website.
Publicly advertised jobs also appear in the Belfast Telegraph (including NI Jobfinder), Irish News and Newsletter on a fortnightly basis, or, in the Department for the Economy, Jobs and Benefits Office.
We also post information on externally advertised jobs on our LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter pages.
You can also sign up to receive emails about new job vacancies.
There are a number of ways you can apply:
You can download an application form in both Word and PDF format. You can also:
Days | Office hours |

This is unavailable during COVID-19. | |
Monday - Thursday | 8.30am - 5pm |
Friday | 8.30am - 4.30pm |
Saturday and Sunday | Closed |
Completed application forms should be emailed to jobs@belfastcity.gov.uk.
We can only accept your application as an attachment to your email. Applications submitted as a link to a storage service (such as WeTransfer) will not be accepted.
You will receive an automatic reply when your application has been received. However, please note that while some applications sent by email may be received by the council’s server, some may be filtered for a variety of reasons and may not be sent on to the Council’s HR jobs email address. If you do not receive an deliverable message or an automatic acknowledgement within 30 minutes, you must call us on 028 9027 0640 to confirm receipt or your application may not be accepted.
You must confirm receipt before the closing date and time as we will not be able to accept applications which were sent but not received before the closing date and time (not even by one minute.)
Please ensure you that you retain the original format of the application form at all times. We accept no responsibility for checking forms upon receipt and/or notifying candidates if forms are unreadable or incomplete for technical reasons, or otherwise.
You can return the completed application form by post to:

It is your responsibility to ensure that your completed application form is returned to the HR section by 4pm on the closing date. We will not be able to accept applications received after the closing date and time (even by one minute). We will not accept any application forms where we have to pay the shortfall in postage. First class post does not guarantee next day delivery.
If your application is hand delivered to a council officer who does not work in the Human Resources Section, or delivered to another council section (for example, the section in which the vacancy arises) and is not in turn re-directed to the Human Resources Section by 4pm on the closing date for receipt of application forms, it will not be accepted.
If you have a disability, or your first language is not English, and you require any assistance with any aspect of our recruitment and selection process, please call 028 9027 0640.
Due to the volume of application forms we receive, we are unable to individually acknowledge any application forms that we receive by post, but we will write to you once the short-listing exercise has been completed to invite you to the next stage of the selection process, or to advise you that your application has been unsuccessful. This will usually take place within five to 10 working days.
You can email jobs@belfastcity.gov.uk or call us on 028 9027 0640 for more information or to confirm your application was received.
