Our penguin experience will bring your child up close and personal with our colony of gentoo penguins. Feed them a fish supper and quiz the keepers who care for these popular aquatic birds.
A penguin experience
A penguin experience lasts approximately 30 minutes and include:
- admission to the zoo for the participant
- behind the scenes access to the penguin area
- an opportunity to feed our colony of penguins
- meeting our penguin-keeper and learning more about these popular birds
- an experience certificate.
Each penguin experience can have a maximum of two people participating.
Age requirements
To participate in a Penguin Experience at Belfast Zoo, you must be 10 years old or over. Age limits are strictly set for the health and safety of our animals, participants and staff. You may be asked on the day to provide proof of age of the participant.
Children under 17 years old must be accompanied by a spectating parent or guardian.
Spectating parents and guardians must pay normal zoo admission on the day of the experience and can watch from the visitor viewing areas.
Penguin experience days and time
A penguin experience needs to be booked.
Our penguin experience is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The experience starts at 1.45pm.

A penguin experience costs £80 per person, or £140 for two persons.

Terms and conditions for a penguin experience
When you visit the zoo, you should follow our visitor code of conduct and terms and conditions for animal experiences.
For the health and safety of our animals, you must wear old, sturdy and suitable footwear during your experience. Some areas have uneven surfaces and you will need to lightly dip your shoes in disinfectant before entering an animal enclosure as a precaution against diseases, including zoonosis.
