The William Brown Conservation Award was established in partnership with Friends of the Zoo to honour the memory of William Brown - a long-standing supporter of Belfast Zoo and a passionate advocate for conservation and education.
This award recognises the vital role that young people can play in protecting our local environment and encourages schools to take action for native wildlife.
About the award
Open to schools and community groups with children and young people aged eight to 16, the award invites participants to:
- choose a native species or habitat that matters to them
- explore its conservation status and share their discoveries through artwork, writing, or video.
- take meaningful action to protect their chosen species or habitat, and
- inspire others by spreading the word in their school or local community.
The aim is to foster a deeper understanding of native biodiversity and empower young people to make a real difference.
