Belfast Zoo has been awarded Highly Commended at the 2022 Belfast Telegraph Awards on 26 May 2022.
Sponsored by Ulster Bank, the awards recognise and celebrate the business successes of individuals and organisations across Northern Ireland. The zoo picked up Highly Commended for the category of Best Use of Digital and/or Social Media, in relation to a series of off-peak promotions last winter.

It has been important for us to think creatively over the past twelve months in order to remain competitive whilst also providing visitors with savings during what is a frugal time for everyone.”
Belfast Zoo’s series of off-peak promotions were delivered at minimal cost and resulted in increased revenue and record-breaking winter footfall for the Cave Hill Site.
Earlier in the year the zoo reported that it had welcomed its busiest year in ten years with almost 280,000 people visiting the Cave Hill site in 2021-22. The zoo has also experienced several record-breaking months with its busiest June, July, August, December and January in over twenty years.
The zoo is open 10am to 6pm every day including the Bank Holiday. Free activities are planned for Sunday 5 June from 11am to 5pm, including:
- bubble disco bike;
- Mr Hullaballoo outdoor puppet show;
- Love Your Zoo Trail; and
- various animal feeding times throughout the day.
The zoo has also organised for a free shuttle bus to run between the zoo and Valley Leisure Centre car park from 10am to 4pm.
