Tree-cycle your natural Christmas trees at Belfast Zoo

Date: 27 December 2023

Tree-cycle your natural Christmas trees at Belfast Zoo

Our animals want your unwanted Christmas trees.

You can donate your natural Christmas tree in our drop off area at the bottom carpark between Saturday 30 December and Wednesday 3 January.

It is free to leave your tree. We will be accepting donations in the Visitor Centre towards our supported conservation projects. We will use donated trees for animal enrichment, for example in scent play, shelter and food foraging. Natural Christmas trees are a great form of enrichment to encourage natural behaviour and provide stimulation.

If there are any excess Christmas trees that aren’t used by the animals, we'll recycle by chipping the trees. We can use tree chippings around the zoo and as mulch for flower beds.

Terms and conditions for natural tree donations

  • We will only accept private donations of trees but will not accept any commercial donations.
  • We will only accept one natural tree per household.
  • We will only accept tree donations from Saturday 30 December 2023 to Wednesday 3 January 2024.
